LUBBOCK, Texas — As students prepare to return to class, Lubbock ISD is highlighting the role fine arts programs play across the district.
More than 80% of Lubbock ISD students participate in at least one fine arts class, according to district fine arts leadership.

Those programs include music, theater, visual arts and other opportunities designed to help students develop creativity, confidence and communication skills.
The district also works with community partners including Buddy Holly Hall, the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, Ballet Lubbock and Texas Tech University to provide students with access to performances, educational experiences and professional artists.
District leaders say those partnerships are especially important for students who may not otherwise have access to fine arts opportunities because of financial or other barriers.

Lubbock ISD’s fine arts programs have also received national and statewide recognition. The district was recently named a Best Communities for Music Education for the 11th consecutive year. It also received an Award of Distinction from the Texas Arts Education Association for the eighth consecutive year and earned an Award of Distinction from the Texas Educational Theatre Association for the first time in district history.
As the new year approaches, district leaders are encouraging students who may be hesitant to try a fine arts program to take a chance and find a place where they can express themselves.
