SAN ANTONIO — A U.S. Marine behind bars in Russia has been freed — and is now back on American soil.

This is new video of 32-year-old Robert Gilman arriving at Kelly Airfield here in San Antonio around 2 a.m.

Gilman was arrested in Russia in 2022 after Russian authorities accused him of assaulting a police officer following a disturbance on a train.

Gilman’s family has long disputed the circumstances surrounding his arrest and imprisonment. Russian President Vladimir Putin pardoned Gilman on humanitarian grounds following intense negotiations with U.S. officials.

His release comes amid serious concerns about his health after years in Russian custody.

Gilman is expected to get treatment at Brooke Army Medical Center.
