The Bears are hoping to work their way into the postseason for the first time since 2022.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The West Oso Bears have spent the last few years watching the playoffs from home and now are looking to get back into the postseason mix.
The Bears started out hot last season at 4-0 and even played Orange Grove well before ultimately falling out of the district race with four consecutive losses to end the year. But the bears return seven starters on both sides of the ball, including star linebacker Trajhuan Vurns, one of the Coastal Bend’s best.

He and the bears’ seniors say the playoff push started immediately after last year ended as West Oso looks to build for the future.
“I’ve never really been, so it would mean a lot to me to make the playoffs,” senior center Manuel Alvarez said.
“This is one of their biggest goals is to get there and rewrite history,” Head Coach Kenneth Duane Johnson said. “They want to pave a way for their little brothers coming up in the future.”
The Bears have a chance to get into that top four, even with a powerhouse like Sinton coming down into the district. Former playoff teams Edna and London left the district, potentially opening up a spot for a team that got left out last season. Mathis and Aransas Pass are hoping to get into that mix as well.
