Houston had a front row seat for an amazing near total solar eclipse in 2024, but this year, it’s Europe’s turn for the celestial event. A spectacular total solar eclipse will sweep across parts of the Northern Hemisphere, Wednesday, August 12, as the Moon passes directly between Earth and the Sun.
Where Can You See the Total Eclipse?
The path of totality stretches across a remote portion of the Arctic before moving through Greenland, Iceland, the North Atlantic, northern Spain and a tiny section of northeastern Portugal.

Some of the best-known locations that will be in the path of totality include:
Reykjavík, Iceland: Totality begins around 5:48 p.m. local time and lasts about one minute.
León, Spain: Totality begins around 8:28 p.m. local time.
Zaragoza, Spain: Totality begins around 8:29 p.m. local time.
Valencia, Spain: Totality begins around 8:32 p.m. local time.
What About Houston?
Bottom line: Houston will not see today’s eclipse.
