EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 34-year-old Horizon City man identified by authorities as a confirmed Chuco Tango gang member was arrested Tuesday evening after allegedly providing a false name to an El Paso County Precinct 6 constable while being detained in connection with a reported theft at the Cielo Vista Walmart.
According to a news release from the El Paso County Constable’s Office, Precinct 6, the incident occurred at approximately 5:35 p.m. at the Walmart located at 7101 Gateway West.
Authorities said an off-duty Precinct 6 constable working at the store was approached by Walmart Asset Protection associates regarding a suspected theft.
The constable detained Terence Andrew Mendoza, 34, of Horizon City, after Mendoza allegedly attempted to leave the store with a speaker valued at approximately $300.

While Mendoza was detained, the constable asked him to identify himself. According to the release, Mendoza initially said he did not have identification and verbally provided a name to the constable.
Following an investigation and identification and warrant checks, authorities said they determined Mendoza had allegedly provided a false last name while lawfully detained.
The Precinct 6 constable subsequently presented a complaint affidavit to the Jail Magistrate’s Office, which issued an arrest warrant charging Mendoza with **Failure to Identify — Giving False/Fictitious Information**.
Mendoza was arrested by Precinct 6 deputy constables and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. His bond was set at $3,000.
Walmart declined to pursue charges related to the initial alleged theft, according to the release.
Authorities also identified Mendoza as a confirmed member of the Chuco Tango gang.
