LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Sales tax revenue the city of Lubbock is receiving this month is up nearly 17 percent compared to the payment received a year ago. This money comes from taxes paid on sales made in June at businesses that report taxes monthly, and sales made in April, May and June by quarterly filers.
Texas Comptroller Don Huffines’s office will send Lubbock $11,096,151.20. This is 16.96 percent higher than the payment received in August 2025.
The year-to-date total Lubbock has received is $77,639,892.89, 8.05 percent higher than the year-to-date amount through this point of 2025.
This monthly report details the sales tax revenue that will be sent to cities, counties and other local governments. Statewide, local governments will receive 13.6 percent more this month than a year ago, totaling $1.4 billion. The year-to-date total statewide is up 6.7 percent.
Comptroller Huffines pointed to this as a way local governments can reduce property taxes.

“The increased sales tax revenue distributed to local governments is a strong sign the Texas economy continues to grow,” Huffines wrote in a news release. “It is also a clear signal that many local governments with increased sales tax revenue can dedicate much of that to property tax reduction. Lowering property taxes is one of the best ways to make housing more affordable and help Texans with the cost of gas, groceries and other living expenses.”
