SAN MARCOS, Texas — Buc-ee’s officially opened the doors of its newest Texas travel center Wednesday morning, drawing crowds of fans who lined up before dawn for the chance to be among the first through the doors of the 74,000-square-foot store.
CBS Austin was live at the scene starting at 4:30 a.m., speaking with fans who had staked out spots in line hours before sunrise, and was there when the doors opened to the public at 6 a.m.

The new location, at 3245 N. IH-35, features 128 fueling positions and the chain’s signature offerings, including Texas barbecue, homemade fudge, kolaches, Beaver Nuggets, jerky and fresh pastries.
Among those in line was the first customer to make a purchase at the new store. CBS Austin spoke with the shopper following the milestone buy, capping off a night of anticipation among Buc-ee’s fan who had traveled from San Antonio for opening day.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m., with San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson and Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra expected to attend.
“The Buc-ee’s mantra is ‘exceed expectations,’ and this San Marcos location is a special step for us in that regard,” Stan Beard of Buc-ee’s said in a statement ahead of the opening. “The San Marcos store will help us provide the ultimate Buc-ee’s experience to all I-35 travelers, north and southbound.”
The company says the new store will create more than 200 jobs, with starting pay above minimum wage, full benefits, a 6% 401(k) match and three weeks of paid vacation.
With the San Marcos location now open, Buc-ee’s operates 57 locations nationwide, including 36 in Texas.
