SEGUIN, Texas – A man was shot and killed by Guadalupe County sheriff’s deputies early Thursday after investigators said he refused to drop a knife he was holding to a woman’s neck.
The shooting happened shortly before 3 a.m. at a home off Hurst Lane near U.S. Highway 90.
According to the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the home around 2:43 a.m. after a man called 911 to report a disturbance. During the call, the man told dispatchers, “he is going to kill her.”
Deputies arrived about seven minutes later and heard screaming coming from inside the home. They went inside and found a man holding a knife to a woman’s neck, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies ordered the man to drop the knife, but investigators said he refused. Deputies then opened fire, saying they believed the woman and deputies at the scene faced an immediate threat.
The man was struck by gunfire and died from his injuries.
The woman was not hurt, and no deputies or other people inside the home were injured.
The sheriff’s office said the man’s identity is being withheld until his family has been notified.
The investigation is ongoing.
