In light of the recent cyberattacks on U.S. water systems in multiple states, experts are warning about the need to protect our power grid. The threat is real.
“It’s very real, as a Marine I always like to flip the map and say if I were to attack myself, what would I attack first? Where am I the most vulnerable” said Wade Miller, former Marine, and now Executive Director of the Center for Renewing America.
Our U.S. energy has become the new priority for our adversaries.
“Literally, small teams of infiltrators could shut down the U.S. economy for weeks, if not months” Miller told KTRH, “To the degree where gas isn’t flowing, electricity isn’t moving to houses, and food isn’t showing up in grocery stores.”
Which is why it is so important to take action, before an attack.
“We really do need to think ahead and start investing in ways to mitigate that” noted Miller, “If an electrical plant goes out, what’s our plan? We can’t scale up wind and solar fast enough, and it’s also just not reliable enough. We need to strategically start thinking about it at the federal and state levels.”
Some of the priority items include, removing Chinese parts from our critical infrastructure, making electricity a top priority with the correct fuel sources, add more protection against cyberattacks, and also come up with defenses against electromagnetic attacks.
Our national security will depend on it.
