SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio City Council District 7 is hosting a free firearm lockbox distribution event Saturday aimed at helping residents safely secure guns in their homes.
The community event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Doris Griffin Community Center, 6157 NW Loop 410.
Residents can receive free firearm lockboxes and cable locks on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
The San Antonio Police Department and San Antonio Fire Department are partnering with Metro Health, Parks and Recreation and other city departments to provide safety information and resources.
City officials said the initiative is intended to educate residents about secure firearm storage and help prevent accidental shootings and gun violence in the community.
San Antonio Animal Care Services and the Department of Human Services will also participate in the event.
Residents interested in receiving a lockbox or cable lock are encouraged to arrive early.
