The Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine is now the Russell and Glenda Gordy College of Osteopathic Medicine, named for philanthropists and SHSU alumni Russell Gordy and Glenda Gordy.

2. Bristol Myers Squibb selects Generation Park for new $2.3B manufacturing campus
Bristol Myers Squibb, a pharmaceutical company, has chosen Generation Park near Lake Houston as the location for its new manufacturing campus. The 600,000-square-foot development is set to bring nearly 500 jobs to the area.

3. Magnolia traffic detour began Aug. 10 ahead of the school year
Drivers in Magnolia are encouraged by the city to make more time for their commute. A temporary detour through Acker and North Sixth streets, intended to improve safety and traffic flow, will be in place for the beginning of the school year.

4. Studio 3113 Modern Needlework opens store for crafters in The Woodlands
Studio 3113, a needlework supply store, opened Aug. 1 near the intersection of Woodlands Parkway and Six Pines Drive. The store will also feature classes and community gatherings.
6. Tim Horton’s to open along Barker Cypress Road in August
The coffee and donut shop plans to open a new location on Barker Cypress Road, officials said. The grand opening is planned for Aug. 28.
