My doomscrolling finally paid off!
As someone who is chronically on TikTok, I spend way too much time scrolling through videos. But every once in a while, the algorithm gives me something genuinely heartwarming. This time, it gave me an El Paso story worthy of its own good news segment.
It all started with a woman on TikTok, who goes by Shanny Panties, a forgotten queso recipe and a woman from El Paso she hadn’t spoken to in years. Stay with me here because it’s such a great story!
A Forgotten Queso Recipe Sparked a TikTok Search in El Paso
In a series of videos, Shanny turned to TikTok hoping someone could help her. In her first video, Shanny had a very specific request: She needed help finding a woman named Melissa from El Paso. And the reason was incredibly important:
Queso.
Shanny explained that Melissa had shown her how to make queso back in 2013, but 13 years later, she couldn’t remember the recipe!
Okay, if you’re still thinking about someone’s queso more than a decade later, I understand why this became a mission!

El Pasoans Helped TikTok Reconnect the Two Women
As usual, El Paso came to the rescue and delivered!
Just one day later, Shanny returned with an update. Melissa’s daughter had been sent the video, showed it to her mom and Melissa called Shanny!
That alone would have made this a great little internet story, but what happened afterward made it even sweeter.
In a third video, Shanny thanked the 915 for helping her search and talked about how welcomed she felt by the community.
Maybe I’m biased, but I loved that part.
A bunch of El Pasoans saw someone looking for a woman from our city and helped get that video to exactly the right person. It’s almost like a Lifetime movie!

There is, however, one extremely important piece of unfinished business.

I’m thrilled Shanny found Melissa. I love that El Pasoans helped make it happen. I’m happy my doomscrolling led me to something that actually made me smile.
But you can’t tell us about an El Paso queso recipe so good that you’re still thinking about it 13 years later and then leave us hanging!
If Melissa is from El Paso and Shanny hasn’t forgotten that queso since 2013, you KNOW it has to be good.
