SAN ANTONIO – With hundreds of pets arriving at the Animal Care Services shelter each week, the city agency is asking residents to consider becoming temporary pet parents to help animals decompress before they move on to permanent homes.
San Antonio Animal Care Services said it is hosting another class in its “Sit. Stay. Learn.” series focused on the benefits of pet fostering. The free Foster 101 orientation is scheduled for Sunday, August 16, from 11 a.m. to noon at the municipal shelter, 4710 State Highway 151.
The “people only” course will cover what it’s like to foster a shelter pet, including which types of pets are most in need of foster homes. The agency said participants will also learn about the perks of the foster program, including free food and supplies, and get tips for preparing their homes for temporary canine or feline guests.
The class is open to new and prospective fosters, but San Antonio Animal Care Services said all companion animals should be left at home.
