Questions are being raised about Kaylynn Paxson serving on Corpus Christi City Council while also working as an economic development consultant for Aransas Pass.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Questions are being raised about whether Corpus Christi City Councilwoman Kaylynn Paxson’s work with the City of Aransas Pass creates a conflict of interest.

Paxson serves on the Corpus Christi City Council while also working as Aransas Pass’ economic development consultant. The two cities are separate local governments, but questions have emerged about whether holding an elected position in one city while working under contract for another could create a conflict.

According to Aransas Pass city documents, Paxson was appointed as the city’s economic development consultant in December 2025. The two-year agreement provides her with $85,000 in annual compensation.

The agreement was later amended to provide Paxson with a $60 monthly phone allowance and a $500 monthly vehicle allowance.

In her role, Paxson works on economic development efforts in Aransas Pass, including business attraction and retention, strategic development planning and initiatives aimed at supporting the city’s local economy.

Aransas Pass has also appointed Paxson to represent the city on the San Patricio County Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors.

The question of a potential conflict centers on Paxson’s responsibilities to both communities. As a Corpus Christi council member, she participates in decisions affecting Corpus Christi, while her contracted work requires her to promote economic development in Aransas Pass.

Paxson says she does not see an issue with holding both roles.

“It’s not uncommon for an elected official to have a job,” Paxson said. She added that contract work can provide flexibility around the demands of serving on a city council and said she would not take action that could put either role in a bad position.

Aransas Pass City Council is expected to discuss Paxson’s contract and its potential termination during an executive session Monday night. The council is also expected to discuss potential legal liability.

3NEWS reached out to Aransas Pass city leaders for comment but did not receive a response by deadline.
