SAN ANTONIO -An unannounced inspection of the ICE Check-In facility by U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro described crowded holding rooms and detainees he said were picked up on their way to work.

In a post on X, Castro said he “just finished an unannounced inspection” of the facility and “saw 40 men packed into 2 holding rooms.” He said most of the men “had been picked up in the morning, on their way to work,” adding, “Their dusty work boots were off to the side. One pair had an American flag on it.”

Castro also said he spoke with families who had someone being held inside the facility.

“ICE isn’t going after the worst of the worst in San Antonio,” Castro wrote. “They’re targeting hardworking folks who are trying to make an honest living for their families.”
