EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Mission Trail Association added some color to the historic Lower Valley on Saturday, Aug. 15.
A new community mural by artist Robert Dozal was unveiled at the El Paso Mission Trail Visitors Center, 9065 Alameda Ave.
“Inspired by the area’s historic missions, traditions, and people, the artwork reflects the unique identity and heritage that make the Mission Trail a treasured part of El Paso,” organizers said.
The project was made possible through the support of the El Paso Mission Trail Association, city Rep. Lily Limon, El Paso County Commissioner Iliana Holguin and private donors.
Dozal, who went to Ysleta High School, said he wanted to leave his mark and contribute something colorful to the Lower Valley that would make people proud. He called the mural a labor of love and a way to express his appreciation for the neighorhood where he has deep roots.
“So there’s a lot of pride already, but I wanted to add some more color to the area,” Dozal said.
Dozal taught art at Eastwood Middle School for 27 years. He now owns a studio and gallery in San Elizario’s art district.
