EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A 72-year-old man is dead after an early-morning collision on Friday, Aug. 14 in East El Paso, police said.

At about 5 a.m., El Paso Police’s Special Traffic Investigations Unit and the DWI Task Force responded to a crash involving two vehicles along Interstate 10 East at the Loop 375 interchange.

According to the preliminary investigation, Julian Lujan, 25, was driving a pickup truck southbound on the northbound lanes of Loop 375.

The pickup truck collided head-on with a Toyota Yaris, driven by 72-year-old Alberto Gonzalez Juarez. Gonzalez Juarez was transported to a hospital, but died from his injuries, police said.

Police have not said if Lujan will be facing charges in the crash or if he was hurt.

This is the 36th traffic fatality inside the City limits compared to 37 at the same time last year.

The investigation continues, police said.
