WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The rotation’s two anchors are at different recovery points after both left the first leg of this West Coast road trip on the mend.
His next scheduled start is Wednesday vs. the Washington Nationals at Globe Life Field. Though with a Monday off day built into the team’s schedule and with Jordan Montgomery built up for length in the bullpen, the Rangers could manipulate their rotation to give him additional time if needed.
He’s eligible to return from the injured list Aug. 25, if healthy by then.
Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said before Friday’s 8-3 loss to the Athletics that the team will discuss whether pitcher Jack Leiter (ankle surgery recovery) will make a second minor league rehab start or return to the big league roster. He pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings at Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday. Of his 48 pitches, 32 were strikes, and his four-seam fastball ran 96-97 mph.
“The main thing is he felt good,” Schumaker said. “That’s the No. 1 question we had. No issue arm-wise or ankle-wise.”
