CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Power has been restored to downtown Corpus Christi after a major outage left about 8,800 AEP Texas customers without electricity Saturday evening.
The outage impacted several businesses and other customers throughout the downtown area.
AEP Texas Communications Director Omar Lopez said the outage was caused by a substation on Morris Street that lost power, impacting the downtown network.

An AEP Texas outage map showed a large portion of the downtown area without electricity as crews worked to identify the problem and restore service.
The outage was reported earlier Saturday and left thousands of customers in the dark.
AEP Texas crews responded to the outage and worked to restore electricity as quickly as possible.
Power was restored at approximately 7:30 p.m., according to AEP Texas.
The outage affected businesses in the downtown area during the evening, but there were no reports provided of serious injuries related to the power failure.
The company credited its crews for their work to restore service to affected customers.
AEP Texas has not indicated that the outage was connected to any additional problems with the downtown electrical network beyond the Morris Street substation issue.
Customers who experienced the outage were encouraged to monitor AEP Texas for additional information and updates.
The outage is no longer impacting the downtown area, and electricity has been restored to affected customers.
