EL PASO, Texas (KFOX 14, CBS4) — Omar Martinez hit a home run to lead the Salt Lake Bees to an 8-2 victory over the El Paso Chihuahuas on Friday at Southwest University Park.
El Paso falls to 49-68. Salt Lake moves to 52-65.
Padres star Joe Musgrove got the start for El Paso on a rehab assignment. In the first inning, Musgrove worked a one, two, three inning with two strikeouts. However, in the second Martinez hit a three-run homer off of Musgrove to give Salt Lake a 3-0 lead. Then in the third, Salt Lake added two more runs because of RBIs from Niko Kavadas and Jeimer Candelario. The Chihuahuas’ bats wouldn’t wake up till the final innings, but it would not be enough as Salt Lake takes it 8-2 and ties the series at two.
For El Paso, Musgrove pitched 4.2 innings where he gave up 9 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 5. Musgrove took the loss.
Ethan Salas was 2 for 4 with an RBI.
For Salt Lake, Brett Kerry pitched 7.0 scoreless innings, where he only surrendered 2 hits and struck out 2.
Martinez was 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs and the home run.
El Paso and Salt Lake will face off again on Saturday for the fifth game of the series at 6:35 pm.
