NatureBest Precut & Produce LLC, a company with facilities located in Houston and Missouri City, announced on Aug. 8 a voluntarily recall of products containing jalapeño peppers supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors. Those products were distributed to retail customers in Texas and Louisiana between July 3 and Aug. 5, and have since been removed from all store shelves, per H-E-B.
The recalled products were all either NatureBest-branded items or H-E-B-branded items. H-E-B removed a collection of pico de gallo containers, jalapeño stuffed mushrooms and diced jalapeños from its shelves, as well as in-store-made products including guacamole and assorted ceviches.
“The FDA and CDC, in collaboration with state and local partners, are investigating illnesses in a multistate outbreak of salmonella javiana infections linked to jalapeño peppers from Sinaloa, Mexico and distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors,” H-E-B said in a statement Friday. “Products manufactured using the affected jalapeños may therefore be impacted.
“NatureBest Precut & Produce LLC has ceased distribution of the affected products and is working in cooperation with its supplier and regulatory authorities regarding this recall.”
There were 54 items in total listed in H-E-B’s recall. H-E-B says all items now sold at their stores are safe from salmonella, and customers who purchased the recalled items listed should not consume the products.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports there are 345 reported cases of salmonella across the United States in 2026 as of Friday, with the highest concentration of cases in Colorado and Minnesota. Products sold at Whole Foods, Kroger, Target, Trade Joe’s, Walmart and others were previously recalled for salmonella earlier this summer, and both Chipotle and QDOBA either changed their jalapeño supplier or ceased using jalapeño peppers in their stores as of late July.
Symptoms of contracting salmonella usually occur within 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food, per the CDC. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps, and children younger than five, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to have severe infections.
