SAN ANTONIO, Texas — No. 16-ranked Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball did not drop a single set in all four of its match victories over the weekend at the Halo Classic on the campus of Our Lady of the Lake University.
After picking up two sweeps over Saint Francis (Ind.) and Montana Western on Friday, the Tigers followed it with two more over Rocky Mountain (Mont.) in their opener on Saturday morning by set scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-18, followed by a win over host Our Lady of the Lake (Tex.) in the afternoon by set scores of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-20.
In the opener against the Battlin’ Bears, the Tigers hit .298 as a team in their attacks, led by 14 kills from Evy Knoblock. Keatyn Liebsack had 13 kills, while Karly VanDerWerff added 11 kills and a team-best .579 hitting percentage for DWU.
Kayleigh Hybertson had a match-high 38 assists and eight digs for the Tigers. Salamasina Nu’u had two aces for DWU, while Lizzie Tyler and Knoblock each tallied 12 digs, with 10 from Presly Pastian.
Against Our Lady of the Lake, the Saints held a 37-27 edge in kills and a 45-43 advantage in digs but tallied 29 attacking errors compared to the Tigers’ eight for the contest. Knoblock and Madisyn Grimsrud each had seven kills for DWU, while VanDerWerff had six, and Olivia Bures and Liebsack each added two solo blocks, as well. Hybertson tallied 21 assists and four digs. Tyler had 16 digs for DWU, with 10 from Pastian and six for Abby Zegar.
DWU (4-0) is next in action at the Siouxland Invitational on Friday, Aug. 21, taking on Corban (Ore.) at 10 a.m., followed by Mayville State (N.D.) at 4 p.m. at the CNOS Fieldhouse in North Sioux City.
