San Antonio folks commuting to or through the downtown area will need to keep an eye out when they leave the house for the work week, as a lane closure is sure to clog up traffic for a bit.
A social media post from the San Antonio Public Works and Capital Delivery pages says a lengthy lane closure is in store for folks traveling downtown. They posted that the reason why was for move in activities related to the University of Texas at San Antonio. “Commerce Street (between Flores & Laredo) will be reduced to 1 lane from 9AM-3PM on Monday, [August 17],” the post reads. “This is for move in activities at UTSA Continental Residences.”
The closure, the post states, will take up the area for six hours.
There is no additional information on other closures impacting that stretch of road, or alternate routes for folks to take if they want to avoid the possible backup in traffic due to the closure.
Luckily for others near the main campus of UTSA, after a weekend of closures due to construction, lanes should open back up on Loop1604 after 5 a.m. on Monday, August 17. The closure, according to TxDOT, are necessary so crews can work on construction for the state’s Loop 1604 North Expansion Project.
The plan targets six segments along the Loop 1604 corridor from SH 16 (Bandera Rd.) to I-35. It’s part of a larger “Texas Clear Lanes” initiative designed to address the state’s most congested areas. The plan as a whole is estimated to be completed in 2028.
