Dallas Fire-Rescue is responding to the Mountain Creek and Red Bird areas Sunday afternoon for a grass fire that sent a thick plume of black smoke into the air that could be seen for miles.
DFR spokesman Jason Evans said units were dispatched shortly before 5 p.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting a grass fire near the 4500 block of Barstow Boulevard.
The fire response was made as triple-digit temperatures roasted the region. Evans said a small area of vegetation was initially on fire but has since spread, indicating the fire is a threat to the nearby community.
“At this time, I can only confirm that the fire has spread to one structure, but I’m unable to confirm what kind of structure it is,” Evans said.
DFR has dispatched seven fire engines, three rescue trucks and a brush truck among other resources. As of 5:48 p.m., Evans said the incident is ongoing, and no injuries have been reported.
According to call logs, more than 15 Dallas police units also responded to the area to assist.
