LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Another hot day on the South Plains and another high in the 90s in Lubbock. The official high was 96 degrees, some 3 degrees above the average for this time of year. Fortunately, we did not approach the Lubbock record of 104 degrees set in 1943.
We will continue with afternoon highs in the 90s and some 100s over the South Plains on Monday. Lubbock should remain in the mid to upper 90s, but for communities along and east of the Caprock the highs will likely hit or exceed 100 degrees.

The limited chances for showers this evening will remain in the Panhandle with a few that might develop or move into the northern South Plains later in the evening.
Monday, a few showers will be possible in the north and northeast counties but coverage will be limited along with rainfall.

Looking ahead to mid-week we will feel more heat with highs near 100 in Lubbock.
As we move toward the weekend, the highs will return to the mid to upper 90s with some slim chances of rain.
