SAN ANTONIO – A man was shot and killed by San Antonio Police officers after they say he approached officers with two large kitchen knives during a possible mental health episode.
The incident happened just before midnight at a home off Spring Front Drive near Babcock Road on the Northwest Side.
Police say the man called 911 to report a disturbance involving a gun, telling dispatchers there were people in his backyard with a gun. When officers arrived, the caller came to the door with his girlfriend. Police say he then walked with officers around the side of the house before pulling out two large kitchen knives and aggressively approaching them.
Officers ordered the man to put down the knives, but police say he did not comply. At least one officer opened fire, hitting the man multiple times.
