CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A mosquito pool collected near Chapman Ranch has tested positive for West Nile virus, according to a news release from Nueces County issued Monday.
Nueces County Vector Control is spraying daily in the affected area outside the Corpus Christi city limits and will continue to monitor mosquito pools.
County officials are encouraging residents to protect themselves from mosquito bites by using DEET-containing repellent, wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants, and limiting outdoor activity around dawn and dusk, when mosquitoes are most active.
Residents are also being asked to drain standing water around their homes and properties to eliminate breeding sites for mosquitoes.
The county did not report any human cases of West Nile virus in Monday’s release.
