EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — One person was seriously injured in a South-Central El Paso fire Monday morning, Aug. 17, according to the El Paso Fire Department (EPFD).
A spokesperson for EPFD confirmed that after 9:30 a.m., emergency dispatchers received multiple calls of a fire along the the 3400 block of Durazno Avenue.
Crews reportedly encountered a one-story commercial building at 3417 Durazno Avenue with visible smoke and fire. According to El Paso Fire Battalion Chief Jesus Salmeron, the auto mechanic shop had a “working fire with a lot of the engines and a vehicle.”
A nearby apartment unit at 3415 Durazno Avenue caught fire.
Firefighters reportedly initiated a fire attack and conducted a primary search for possible victims.
One person was found, treated, and taken to a hospital with serious burn injuries. No other injuries were reported.
According to fire officials, 12 units and 36 firefighters responded to the scene.
Fire investigators from the El Paso Fire Marshal’s Office were called to the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
