A Dallas jury has sentenced Rashonda Lowe to life in prison after a shocking guilty plea on the first day of trial last week.
Lowe was charged with murder in the death of Jaime Rokkett, the owner of a cookie shop located inside the Shops at RedBird in Dallas.
Lowe entered an open guilty plea to murder, leaving a Dallas County jury to decide her punishment. During the punishment phase, jurors rejected Lowe’s argument that she killed Rokkett under the immediate influence of sudden passion arising from an adequate cause. A finding of sudden passion would have reduced the possible punishment to between two and 20 years in prison. Instead, the jury sentenced Lowe to life in prison.
According to forensic investigators, Rokkett was shot at least seven times, including in the head, at his workplace on July 1, 2025.
A jury heard the case during the week to decide Lowe’s punishment after she pleaded guilty.
The trial revealed more about Lowe and Rokkett’s relationship.
Prosecutors said Lowe and Rokkett had previously been involved in a relationship. Jurors were shown text messages and phone call logs between the two.
Rokkett, however, was married to Samantha Rokkett at the time of the shooting. She testified that she became aware of Lowe after she reached out on Facebook, claiming to be dating Rokkett.
Samantha told jurors the contact eventually escalated into repeated unwanted contact. Prosecutors pointed out that Samantha made at least four police reports about what she described as continued harassment dating back as early as September 2022.
Under the law outlined to jurors, Lowe would become eligible for parole after serving 30 years, though eligibility does not guarantee release.
