Lubbock High claims first win over Coronado since 1987, 42-35

  • November 8, 2025

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Lubbock High Westerners (3-7) ended their season on a winning note with a 42-35 win over the Coronado Mustangs, their first win over their crosstown rivals since 1987.

LHS got off to a 14-0 lead when prolific sophomore running back Bo Davis went right up the middle for a Westerner score. The Mustangs responded with a touchdown from standout receiver Campbell Stanek. However, Lubbock High made it 21-7 with another Davis TD.

This game had sudden playoff implications after Amarillo High was required to forfeit six of its wins after having an ineligible player– this includes previous victories over Lubbock High and Coronado.

With Friday night wins from both Lubbock High and Amarillo High, the two schools joined Amarillo Caprock as the fourth-place team in the district. The heads of the three schools met in Plainview for a coin flip, which was won by Amarillo High.
