LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham will join local officials next month for the dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new West Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
The dedication ceremony is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, at 10 a.m.
The new facility will serve more than 21,000 veterans and their eligible family members in the region. It marks the fifth Texas State Veterans Cemetery built and operated by the Veterans Land Board, which operates under the Texas General Land Office.
“I am immensely proud that we have created such a beautiful and special resting place for the men and women who have selflessly served our country,” Buckingham said in a statement. “I thank the Lubbock community for their outpouring of support and our incredible staff at the West Texas State Veterans Cemetery for their commitment to maintaining these hallowed grounds.”
The ceremony is open to the public.
