LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Heat Advisory is in effect Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. for most areas off the Caprock as hot temperatures grip the region. High temperatures are expected to reach between 104 and 108 degrees in lower elevation zones.

An upper-level ridge of high pressure stretching from Southern California across the desert Southwest and much of Texas will extend this dangerous heat pattern through the week. Areas farther west will see highs between 100 and 104 degrees, still well above the mid-90s average for mid-August.

The combination of heat and dry conditions will result in elevated fire danger across much of the region Tuesday. Dry air aloft will keep rain chances at zero through Tuesday night, with overnight lows only dropping into the 70s to around 80° by Wednesday morning.
The extreme heat is expected to persist through the week, with highs reaching or exceeding 105 degrees off the Caprock on Wednesday. Another Heat Advisory may be needed for that day as well.

Storm chances remain low through most of the week. A slight chance for storms returns late this week and may try to continue through the weekend, with small chances expected Thursday and again Saturday.
