A trio of Houston hip-hop stars — and one unofficial Houstonian — will battle it out for an MTV Video Music Award.
The nominations were announced Tuesday morning, led by Madonna, whose “Confessions II” earned 11, including video, artist and song of the year. This year’s best hip-hop category was an H-town takeover:
This is Toliver’s first nomination. The nominees also include “Janice STFU” by Drake, who credits Houston with kickstarting his career.
The category is rounded out by Cardi B and Kehlani (“Safe”) and Tyler, the Creator (“Sugar on My Tongue”).
Texas nominees in other categories include Kacey Musgraves, Lainey Wilson and Ella Langley.
The VMAs will air live Sept. 27 on MTV. Fan voting is open for 13 categories at vote.mtv.com through Sept. 25.
