One item Mavericks should be sure to have is their key to campus, otherwise known as the Mav ID card.
Mav IDs are required for several campus services. The card serves as the official identification for students, faculty and staff.
The card provides access to:
Residence hallsConnection CaféMaverick CaféCentral LibraryMaverick Activities CenterArt and architecture studiosHealth ServicesUTA sporting eventsLab entry for some academic departments
The cards are also sometimes used for class attendance, exams and to check out academic materials from the lending machines at the Central Library.
Many local businesses also offer student discounts with a valid Mav ID.
Students typically receive their Mav IDs during orientation, said Christopher Fulton, assistant vice president of Auxiliary Enterprises, in an email. If not, they can visit the Mav Express office, located at 435 Spaniolo Drive in the College Park District, once classes begin.
To obtain a Mav ID, students need to bring a government-issued photo ID and their 10-digit UTA ID number. Photos can be taken in person and the card is issued on the spot.
The busiest time to obtain a Mav ID is typically the first two or three days of school, Fulton said. After that period, the wait is relatively short.
The Mav Express team also sets up in different locations throughout campus at various points during the semester.
If an individual loses their Mav ID, it should be reported online via the Mav Express website to temporarily lock the account. A replacement card costs $15 and is billed to the student’s account, Fulton said.
The office is closed during normal university holidays and closures.
