After initially breaking up more than 20 years ago, one Texas couple with ties to the San Antonio area is now in the running to become “America’s Favorite Couple.”
Víctor de León and Glenda García-de León, originally of the Rio Grande Valley, have officially advanced to the top of a nationwide competition to win $20,000, a feature spot in Variety and a “Hollywood” dinner with movie stars Jeff Goldblum, Ted Danson and Charlie Day and their spouses.
On Sunday, August 16, the newlyweds who tied the knot in July 2026 made it to the competition’s quarterfinals, highlighting what they say is “proof that God’s timing is better than [their] own” after reconnecting years after first falling in love.
“Our story has a bit of a twist,” Victor de León told MySA. “[We] went on to live separate lives, reconnected two decades later, and married earlier this year.”
The public can now vote online for their favorite couples in the quarterfinal round through August 27. The de Leóns say that their story serves as a “reminder that love, friendship, perseverance, and community can bring people together in unexpected ways.”
“We’re incredibly humbled and grateful for everyone who has supported us,” Victor de León said in a written statement shared with MySA. “Whether people know us from San Antonio or the Valley, we’ve been overwhelmed by the encouragement. We’re hopeful South Texas and others will continue to rally for us as we advance through the national competition.”
