An extreme heat warning has been issued for North Texas as temperatures could reach 108 degrees.
The warning will be in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, for much of the region, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth. An extreme heat warning is issued when extremely dangerous heat conditions are expected.
Afternoon highs could reach up to 108 degrees Tuesday, with potential heat index values up to 109 degrees. Heat index is described as the “feels like” temperature to the human body.
The NWS is reminding folks to drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning and to make sure they don’t leave any person or animal behind in a locked vehicle.
