A behind-the-scenes look at Lubbock ISD-TV, the classes students take to prepare for the future

  • August 19, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Lights, camera, action.

Students from all five Lubbock high schools have the opportunity to learn more about the many facets of the media industry through Career and Technical Education and Lubbock ISD-TV.

Elizabeth Roup, its coordinator, says this is the perfect space for students to grow as young professionals.

“Our students get so much hands-on experience and it’s so awesome for them,” Roup said. A lot of times, I tell them they don’t even know how fortunate they are, because there’s colleges across the country that don’t have this space.”

It first starts in the classroom. These students take classes like audio-video production, commercial photography and animation, in order to be prepared for any future careers they want to pursue.

After that, it’s time for students to showcase some of those skills through Lubbock ISD-TV. There’s the control room, making sure each production goes smoothly, and a studio big enough for a full-scale production.

“Anytime I can get in the classroom or in the studio with the students is the best part of my day,” Roup said. “Getting to see the students working, get their hands on cameras, and really achieving something, really working together and doing something they can go to the workforce and do as a career, is phenomenal.”

Students are taking advantage of what the CTE program and Lubbock ISD-TV have to offer. Just ask Parker Dannenberg, a senior at Lubbock High who wants to pursue a career in 2D animation and directing.

“Half of it is the community that I get from it,” Dannenberg said. “From whenever we work games together and I meet people from first year, fourth year, second, third, like all the different classes and people. The other half of it is the career aspect. Being ready to go into industry is super important for me, or even for college.”

As these students prepare for what lies ahead, Lubbock ISD is making sure they have everything they need for the future, one class and show at a time.
