SAN ANTONIO – Tx — A parent is calling for a Gonzales ISD school board member to be censured after a hot mic picked up a rude comment made by the board member.
The incident happened at the Aug. 10 board meeting when Thomas Enriquez called out the school board for their lack of communication about repairs to bleachers at Apache Stadium.
“To put it quite simply your communication skills suck,” Enriquez said. “School starts Wednesday and two days out you’re just now communicating how the football season will operate.”
Enriquez is upset after learning that no home games will be played at Apache Stadium this season due to bleacher repairs.
Instead, Gonzales football fans will need to drive about 40 minutes away to Seguin to attend home games.
Enriquez says this isn’t the first time school officials have failed to communicate in a timely manner. He accuses district officials of causing him to miss his daughter’s graduation.
“Last year my daughter graduated from Gonzales, and you made a last-minute decision to hold the ceremony in the gym,” Enriquez said.
Enriquez says graduation ceremonies are usually held at Apache Stadium. The school district gave each family four wrist bands to the graduation ceremony to ensure there was enough space in the gym.
But when he arrived, he was turned away due to the gym being over capacity.
He’s now even more upset after voicing his concerns at last week’s school board meeting because a hot mic picked up a school board member saying “Ain’t nobody worried about you.”
“I sat on that all summer,” Enriquez said. “I never spoke at a school board meeting. The one time I decided to speak up, I get dismissed, and with a comment, ain’t nobody worried about you.”
We reached out to Gonzales ISD about the board member’s comment. They did not answer our questions. Instead, they talked about their first day of school and their new Alternative Learning Center.
