President Trump will be here in Houston next week for a fundraiser. This is likely part of an ongoing effort by the Republican National Committee to ramp up its fundraising efforts ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

It’s also worth pointing out that the fundraiser, which will be held on August 27, is just a few weeks before the Republican Midterm Convention scheduled for September in Dallas. Political strategist Vlad Davidiuk says this is all part of a strategy from the GOP that focuses on Texas’ major metros.

“This is something that really sends a strong signal that Trump sees Texas, and victories in these big metros, as really important,” he explained.

Davidiuk says this will once again highlight the major advantage that Republicans have over Democrats when it comes to campaign war chests. According to him: “Democrats are actually almost $20 million in debt, and it’s a huge advantage. Politics is actually the only sport where you’re supposed to kick the other guy when he’s down.”

He believes Trump raising money in Houston will be a great way to contrast the GOP and the DNC, who still don’t have a national leader or standard-bearer to go out and campaign for them ahead of the 2026 midterms.
