A 5-year-old girl died Tuesday night in Garland after police say she was left alone in a car outside her home.
Garland police and firefighters responded around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday to a home on Redbird Drive after someone reported the medical emergency and found family members there trying to revive the child.
The girl was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police said an adult family member had returned home after picking up the 5-year-old girl and her sibling from school and the girl was left inside the vehicle. The high temperature in Garland on Tuesday reached 108 degrees, according to AccuWeather.
After realizing the girl was missing, family members searched for her and found her unresponsive inside the vehicle, police said.
The investigation into the child’s death is ongoing, and no charges have been filed as of Wednesday afternoon, police said.
