Dixon

James Luther “Dickie” Dixon, 81, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2026, in Fort Worth.

The funeral service was held 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at First Baptist Church in Bridgeport. Family received friends one hour prior to the service at 1 p.m. at the church.

Dickie was born on Oct. 2, 1944, to James L. “Pop” and Jane (Price) Dixon in Pensacola, FL. He was united in marriage to Wanda Hudson on April 26, 1986, in Graford.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Texas Tech University in 1967, where he was an active member of Phi Gamma Delta, making many lifelong friends. Dickie began his career with Texaco, working as a landman in New Mexico and West Texas before moving to Bridgeport, with Mitchell Energy, later Devon Energy, until his retirement. He truly enjoyed his work, talking to farmers and ranchers and being out on the land.

Dickie was an avid hunter all over Texas, North America, Canada and Africa. His home was akin to a nature museum full of exotic animal trophies. He loved living on the lake and enjoying activities including fishing, boating, and spending time with his family.

Dickie will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and faith he shared with those around him. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Bridgeport, where his faith and love for his church family were an important part of his life.

Dickie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wanda Dixon; and his step-sons, Bert and Brant Hawkins.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Price Dixon and his partner, Travis Whitcraft; his daughter-in-law, Stacey Hawkins; his step-son, Rob Hawkins; his grandchildren, Trey Hawkins and his wife, Bri; Chase Hawkins and his wife, Ada; Tiffany Hawkins and her fiancé, Luke Condron; and Raby Hawkins. In addition, Dickie leaves behind seven great-grandchildren.
