Another hot day expected with isolated evening storms possible for some

  • August 20, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Heat Advisory has been issued for Thursday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. as dangerously hot conditions continue off the Caprock, with afternoon highs expected to reach advisory levels.

KCBDKCBD(KCBD)

While the primary concern remains the heat, a cold front currently stalled over the central Texas Panhandle could push slightly south by late this afternoon, creating an opportunity for a few isolated thunderstorms to develop during the early evening hours, mainly across the northern portions of the South Plains.

KCBDKCBD(KCBD)

Any storms that develop would be short-lived and isolated at best. The threat for severe weather remains low, though a storm or two could produce wind gusts exceeding 60 mph. Any evening storms should dissipate before midnight.

KCBDKCBD(KCBD)

The cold front is expected to do little to cool temperatures or produce significant rainfall.

KCBDKCBD(KCBD)

Surface winds will shift to southwesterly by early Friday morning as conditions stabilize. The heat will persist through the remainder of this week and well into next week, with no significant relief in sight.
