#7 BYU vs. #8 Texas Tech: The matchup
The Cougars are expected to run into a sizable disadvantage in a raucous road environment, entering Friday as 10.5-point underdogs. BYU has simply kept winning without many style points or premium victories with its Nov. 18 win over No. 23 Utah currently the Cougs’ only top-25 win. Last week’s 41-27 win over Iowa State in Ames is also a highlight after falling behind, 24-10, in the second quarter and scoring 31 of the game’s final 34 points.

The Texas Tech offense responded to the team’s first loss of the season at Arizona State (26-22) in Week 8 with back-to-back 40-plus scoring games in wins over Oklahoma State (42-0) and at Kansas State (43-20). Texas Tech has the goods on paper to hand BYU its first loss, with an offense that ranks top-5 nationally in yardage (5th, 492.3 ypg) and scoring (3rd, 43.6 ppg) while the defense ranks top-5 in scoring (13.2 ppg) and rushing (1st, 74.6 ypg).
