Ten rail cars on a Union Pacific train derailed Thursday afternoon in far west Bexar County, prompting traffic control in the area.

The derailment happened around 2:45 p.m. near LaCoste Road and U.S. Highway 90 in Macdona, about 20 miles west of downtown San Antonio, according to Union Pacific.

No injuries or spills were reported, the railroad said.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were providing traffic control at the scene while awaiting the Railroad Commission of Texas to take the lead.

Cleanup efforts are underway, and the cause of the derailment remains under investigation.

Additional details, including what the rail cars were carrying, were not immediately available.
