We truly enjoy dinner out with friends and try a lot of restaurants, old and new, but it’s very special when we are able to get our daughters together, which happens less often than it used to now that they’ve launched into their own lives. If it’s crawfish season, Addie and Lexie are always up for that, and Robin and I are loyal to Bayou City Seafood & Pasta. In fact, Robin and I got engaged at the original location over boiled crawfish. I attended culinary school in France and worked weekends and nights at restaurants in Paris and the South of France, so we have a soft spot for Philippe Verpiand’s Etoile, especially for our anniversary and birthdays. I most often order the escargot and sole. We enjoy sushi early in the week and often stop into Ginza, which is a little neighborhood place, but for special occasions, we’re Kata Robata fans. And you can’t live in Houston without getting a Tex-Mex fix regularly. We have two good ones in our neighborhood: Sylvia’s and Escalante’s. I get the chicken caldo if I’m being good, but Sylvia’s has the best carne asada in town, in my opinion. Robin and I both love the grilled fish and shrimp tacos at Escalante’s. When the girls are in town, we always hit El Tiempo for combo fajitas and margaritas.
