In response, ZZ Top canceled their shows in Salt Lake City on Tuesday and Colorado Springs on Wednesday, but the band confirmed on social media that it will resume its tour this weekend with two shows in Austin. ZZ Top said that Austin City Limits was, “one of Frank’s favorite venues and in a city that had been something of a second home for him.”
“These performances will honor Frank’s life and legacy at one of his favorite venues and in a city that held a special place in his heart,” ACL Live wrote on its Instagram post. “At ACL Live, we join fans everywhere in celebrating the music, memories, and enduring impact of a true Texas legend.”
Founding ZZ Top member, Beard had been a part of the band for nearly 60 years. He helped form ZZ Top in Houston in 1969, alongside Dusty Hill, who died in 2021, and Billy Gibbons, who is still the band’s guitarist and lead singer.
Beard was in hospice care when he died Tuesday at his ranch in Richmond, Texas. He was best known for keeping the tempo for some of ZZ Top’s biggest hits including “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Gimme All Your Lovin’” and “La Grange.”
The band has sold more than 50 million records and had six singles that reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart. ZZ Top’s current members are Gibbons, bass player Elwood Francis (who joined after Hill’s passing in 2021), and drummer Michael Monahan.
