LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Lubbock Area Republican Women hosted their Pink Elephant Gala at the Overton Hotel and Conference Center on Thursday evening.
The event is a fundraiser designed to support conservative causes and candidates across West Texas.
This year’s theme was “Standing in the Gap,” calling for Republican voters to take a stand for what they consider conservative values.
Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows, R-Lubbock, addressed attendees at the gala.
“They are spending $400-600 million dollars of Marxist money from out of state to try to make Texas turn blue,” Burrows said. “It is up to you in this room to help stop that.”
Sen. Mayes Middleton, R-Galveston, a candidate for Texas attorney general, also spoke at the event.
“It’s a battle of good versus evil, like your fight with Lubbock ISD,” Middleton said. “You have to be bold and unafraid to do what’s right.”
Middleton was one of the featured guests at the gala. His platform focuses on conservative social causes, including his work fighting against transgender rights.
Middleton said he wants to go on the offensive against cartels and gangs. He also said he supports Gov. Abbott’s efforts to audit and study data centers across Texas.
“This is something we have to make sure we protect our resources,” Middleton said. “I’m in the oil and gas business, ranching and farming, 7th generation Texan, this is it for me, I want to make sure we steward our state and our resources, and I’ll do exactly that.”
Middleton is in the middle of a West Texas tour and is slated to reach Amarillo by Friday morning.
Middleton is facing Texas Sen. Nathan Johnson for attorney general in November. Ken Paxton stepped down as attorney general to run for the U.S. Senate.
