This weekend, parts of I-30 westbound will be closed in west Fort Worth, and drivers will need to take a detour.
According to a news release from TxDOT, all lanes of westbound I-30 from West Loop 820 to I-20 will be closed starting at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21 until 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24.
Here’s what to expect this weekend.
Why is I-30 closing?

According to an email release from TxDOT, “Westbound I-30 from West Loop 820 to I-20 will be closed for a traffic switch onto new permanent pavement.”
A traffic switch is when new or temporary lanes are put in place to prepare for road construction crews to work on the other side of the road.
This is a part of TxDOT’s grander Keep 20-30 moving plan, a project that will “improve traffic flow, connect with city streets, include combined transport for cyclists and pedestrians reduce congestion and enhance safety,” according to TxDOT.
Where are the detours?
Signed detours will be posted to the area. All surrounding frontage roads will remain open.
Westbound ramps, including northbound & southbound I-820 direct connectors, will all be closed. I-30 eastbound main lanes and ramps will remain open.
TxDOT recommends taking a detour from I-820 to I-20.
