A film is in the works on a Texas woman who lost 13 years of her memory from complications during childbirth.
Deadline reported on Wednesday, Aug. 19, that “Reagan” and “Soul Surfer” director Sean McNamara will write and direct “Blank Canvas.” The faith-based drama is based on Marcy Gregg’s 2022 memoir of the same name.
In 1990, Gregg, who is from East Texas and went to SMU, contracted pneumococcal bacterial spinal meningitis during the delivery of her third child at the age of 30. She went into a coma, and when she woke up, Gregg believed she was 17 years old.
“At the age of 30, Marcy Gregg experienced a serious medical complication during childbirth that resulted in the loss of 13 years of her memory. Faced with the challenge of rebuilding her identity, relationships, and faith, Gregg embarked on a deeply personal journey of healing and transformation that would ultimately shape her life’s work and the message she shares with audiences today,” the film’s synopsis reads.

Film on Marcy Gregg in the works
Gregg’s memories have yet to return, so she decided to rebuild her life.
Today, Gregg is a full-time artist based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her work has been on display across the country and abroad, according to her website.
In 2022, Gregg published her memoir, “Blank Canvas: The Amazing Story of a Woman Who Awoke from a Coma to a Life She Couldn’t Remember,” about her memory loss and how she moved forward.
“Finally, one night, seven years after the coma, God impressed on my heart that he saved me for the future, not the past, and at that point I was able to really let go. Now we live to make new memories,” Gregg told SMU in an interview.
“Blank Canvas” will be produced by McNamara and David Brookwell, and executive produced by Will Crenshaw of Beaumont, Texas.
There’s no word on who will star as Gregg in the film, or if the project will film in Texas.
