TxDOT is sharing detour options for San Antonio, Texas, drivers as the agency will close several lanes on Loop 1604 near Blanco Road from August 21-24.

San Antonio highways are proof that improvement takes time. Several Loop 1604 and I-10 roadways will shut down again this week as construction continues on the Northside.
Loop 1604 closures this weekend
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) plans to close three routes near The Vineyard Shopping Center and Stone Oak Parkway, according to a press release. Effective Friday, August 21, at 8 p.m., the following roads will be closed:

Eastbound (EB) and westbound (WB) Loop 1604 frontage road at Blanco Road
Local destination trips only, no through traffic approaching Blanco Road
Blanco Road at Loop 1604

These routes will remain unavailable to drivers until 5 a.m. Monday, August 24, weather permitting.
TxDOT tells MySA that the Blanco Road closure, in particular, is necessary so crews can complete the final work on San Antonio’s first-ever Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI). The agency says the interchange will be in its complete and final configuration when it opens on Monday.

I-10 closures this weekend
Folks based near the Rim will also see traffic delays. Closures will be in place in the following areas from 9 p.m. on Friday through 5 a.m. on Monday:

EB and WB I-10 mainlanes at the Loop 1604 interchange
EB and WB I-10 frontage roads at the Loop 1604 interchange
Folks based near the San Antonio Rim will also see traffic delays this weekend. Closures will be in place near the Rim from 9 p.m. on Friday, August 21 through 5 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026.

How to get to EB Loop 1604 Frontage Road
Drivers on the EB Loop 1604 frontage road should keep left to enter the Blanco Road bypass. They can then return to the EB Loop 1604 frontage road by keeping right, or keep left to enter the EB Loop 1604 main lanes.
Those exiting the Vineyard Shopping Center must continue along the WB Loop 1604 frontage road to the U-turn at Huebner Road, then enter the EB Loop 1604 frontage road.
Detour to WB Loop 1604 Frontage Road
Drivers on the WB Loop 1604 frontage road can keep left to enter the Blanco Road bypass. They can then either return to the WB Loop 1604 frontage road by keeping right or enter the WB Loop 1604 main lanes by keeping left.

How to access Northbound (NB) Blanco Road
Travelers on NB Blanco Road who are trying to continue through the Loop 1604 interchange must drive south on Blanco Road, then turn right onto Huebner Road. They should remain on Huebner Road through the Loop 1604 intersection until they reach Blanco Road again.
Detour to Southbound (SB) Blanco Road
Drivers on SB Blanco Road who are trying to pass through the Loop 1604 interchange should drive north on Blanco Road, then turn left onto Huebner Road. From there, they can continue down Huebner Road through the Loop 1604 intersection and onto Blanco Road.

How to access EB Loop 1604 Mainlanes
San Antonians on EB Loop 1604 should exit via the ramp before the I-10 interchange and follow the EB Loop 1604 frontage road through the interchange. They can re-enter the EB Loop 1604 main lanes at the first available entrance ramp.
How to enter WB Loop 1604 Mainlanes
Commuters on WB Loop 1604 should exit at the ramp before the I-10 interchange and follow the WB Loop 1604 frontage road through the interchange. They should then re-enter the WB Loop 1604 main lanes after taking the first available entrance ramp.
